CUET

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) is the national entrance exam for admission to undergraduate programmes (BA, BSc, BCom, BFA and more) in central universities and many state, deemed and private universities. It is conducted every year by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and replaces separate university-level entrance tests with a single exam.

Latest update: NTA has not yet released the official CUET UG 2027 bulletin. Based on previous cycles, the notification and registration are expected in January–February 2027, with the exam in May–June 2027. Always confirm dates on the official NTA website.

What changed in the recent cycle

• CUET UG 2026 was held entirely in computer-based test (CBT) mode across multiple shifts from May 11 to May 31, 2026.
• Every paper has 50 compulsory MCQs. There are no optional questions to choose from.
• Each paper carries 250 marks (50 × 5) and runs for 60 minutes.
• Domain subjects are based on the NCERT Class 12 syllabus.

What this means for you: CUET is already a fully on-screen exam. Practise timed CBT mocks early, because 60 minutes for 50 questions leaves about 72 seconds per question, and negative marking punishes careless guesses.

• Education: Passed Class 12 or appearing in Class 12 from a recognised board, in any stream.
• Age: No upper age limit.
• Attempts: No limit on the number of attempts.
• Minimum marks: Set by each university and course, not by CUET itself. Check the eligibility for every programme you want (some courses ask for around 50% in Class 12 for General category).
• Subject match: Many courses require specific CUET domain subjects, so pick subjects only after checking your target courses.

Registration is fully online on the official NTA CUET UG portal. Apply only once. Duplicate applications can lead to cancellation of candidature.

Step 1: New Candidate Registration

• Open the CUET UG website and click "New Candidate Registration".
• Read the instructions, then enter your personal, contact and address details.
• Your login credentials are sent to your registered email and mobile number.

Step 2: Fill the Application Form

• Log in and enter your academic details.
• Choose your test papers (up to 5), your preferred exam cities and the universities/courses you are applying to.

Step 3: Upload Documents

Upload clear scans within NTA's size and format limits:

• Recent photograph.
• Signature.
• Class 10 / Class 12 details as required.
• Category / PwBD certificate (if applicable).
• ID proof as specified in the bulletin.

Step 4: Pay the Application Fee

• Pay online via Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card or UPI.
• CUET UG 2026 fee (2027 fee will be confirmed in the bulletin):
  • General (UR): ₹1,000 for up to 3 papers, ₹400 for each additional paper
  • OBC-NCL / EWS: ₹900 for up to 3 papers, ₹375 for each additional paper
  • SC / ST / PwBD / Third Gender: ₹800 for up to 3 papers, with a lower fee for each additional paper
• Fees are higher for exam centres outside India.

After submitting, save your confirmation page and use the correction window if you need to fix any detail.

NTA has not published dates yet. Based on earlier cycles:

• NCERT first. Domain papers follow the Class 12 NCERT books. Read them line by line, then move to MCQs.
• Pick subjects strategically. Choose papers required by your target courses, and give priority to the ones you can score highest in.
• Practise MCQs daily by chapter, then switch to full-length timed papers on screen.
• Train for accuracy. With −1 for a wrong answer, attempt when you can eliminate at least two options.
• Cover the General Aptitude Test if your courses need it: current affairs, general knowledge, quantitative reasoning and logical reasoning.
• Review every mock. Track your weak chapters and time per question.

Is CUET UG 2027 in CBT mode? Yes. CUET UG has been held as a computer-based test, and the 2026 exam was entirely in CBT mode.

What is the expected CUET UG 2027 exam date? May–June 2027 is expected. The official schedule will come with NTA's information bulletin.

What is the CUET UG marking scheme? +5 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong answer and 0 for an unattempted question. Each paper is worth 250 marks.

How many subjects can I choose? Up to 5 papers in total, including languages and the General Aptitude Test.

Are all questions compulsory? Yes. Each paper has 50 questions, and all are compulsory.

How long is each paper? 60 minutes.

Is there a negative marking in CUET? Yes, 1 mark is deducted for every wrong answer.

What is the age limit for CUET UG? There is no upper age limit.

Can Class 12 students appear? Yes. Students appearing in Class 12 in the same year can apply, subject to the final eligibility of each university.
