PYQ

Why are Previous Year Questions ( PYQs) your Secret Weapon for the CUET 2026 ?

By Admin11 May 2026

A coaching teacher once remarked that "The exam has already told you what it wants. You just have to listen."

It is exactly what the PYQs are. The examination gets to speak to you directly during your practice days and times. But in reality many students do not just listen carefully enough.

The Mistake Almost Every CUET Aspirant tends to make is:

Using thick guide books, highlighting notes or browsing through a dozen YouTube tabs. There is nothing wrong with any of this. But on asking them about how many PYQs they have solved this week and you will often get an awkward silence.

That silence is where marks actually get lost.

PYQs are not just practice of questions. They are a map of what the exam values, and what it repeats , ignores or thinks. Skipping them is like training for a marathon without ever running on the actual route.

CUET Has Patterns , and PYQs Reveal Them: When you sit down and go through three or four years of previous papers, then patterns jump out at you almost immediately. Certain topics in every paper appear almost every single year. A handful of concepts in keep coming back in slightly different forms. The language section has a very particular way of framing reading comprehension questions.

You won't find this written in any guidebook. No one tells you this. You have to discover it yourself through the solving of PYQs by paying careful attention, and by asking yourself after every question as to why did they ask it .

That habit alone can change your entire preparation style.

There is a huge difference between knowing something and being able to recall it under pressurised exam condition time durations.

When you solve the PYQs with a timer running, you start to manage time in an instinctive manner. You learn when to attempt a question and when to skip it. You stop second-guessing yourself on easy ones and commence to spend smarter time on the harder ones.

Mock tests are essentially crucial . But PYQs have a definite edge as they are real. They come from the actual exam rooms and from real pressure situations. This authenticity matters more than most people realise.

Even Wrong Answers Teach You a lot:

This is the part (Review) which students largely skip. After solving a PYQ set, most students check their score and move on.In fact this is a big mistake.

Ponder over every wrong answer.Try to understand as to why you got it wrong. Was it due to a knowledge gap or ecause of a misread question ? It may even be on account of a careless error? Each wrong answer is a lesson dressed up in the form of a mistake. The students who treat PYQs this way i.e as a feedback and not just practice are the ones who improve the fastest.

How to Use PYQs the Right Way:

Do not just solve them in a random way . Begin with the most recent years first -CUET 2025 and 2024 papers reflect the current pattern most accurately. Then start to work backwards. As you go, attempt to maintain a simple trend of topics that repeat frequently. This observation becomes your last week revision bible.

Aim to solve at least one full subject paper every couple of days. Endeavour not to rush through them. Give each paper the same respect you would be giving to the actual examination.

One final Thought:

Every topper you have ever heard of has one thing in common- they did not simply study hard, they actually studied the exam itself. PYQs are the most direct way to do exactly that.

CUET 2026 is going to be competitive. But it is also quite predictable- provided you pay attention to what it has been asking all along.

All the very best for CUET 2026. You are, definitely, more prepared than you may think.
